  • Overview

    Have experience developing models of engines and/or aftertreatment systems?  Have an interest in working with  HIL or SIL?  You may be a good fit for AVL Powertrain Engineering's Advanced Development Methods team. 

     

    The Advanced Development Methods team works to maximize powertrain development and efficiency on both AVL-internal and customer projects This role would play a part in the technical engineering area by developing technical solutions to meet customer and AVL needs, creating and maintaining methodology resources, participating in customer projects with a focus on methodology improvements, and developing best practices. 

     

    This position will also play a role in the sales area by attending necessary conferences, supporting business development, and assisting with market assessments.  Lastly, this position will play a role in the planning or coordination area by participating in the quotation/design review process to ensure the methodologies are applied appropriately to meet deliverables with optimum efficiency.

     

    Qualified candidates must possess strong communication skills and work well individually and in a team environment.  Experience with 1D or 0D modeling is preferred.

    Responsibilities

    • Development of engine, aftertreatment and vehicle models for real-time simulation.
    • Collect and review engine, aftertreatment and vehicle test data to correlate models.
    • Development of new methods for the calibration of powertrains in different environments (MIL, SIL, HIL, test).
    • Cooperation with calibration engineers to develop understanding and common definition of new methods.
    • Setup and operation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) test benches.
      • Implementation and integration of models and hardware.
      • Configuration and implementation of automated ECU software tests.
    • Experience in the following areas:
      • Engine or powertrain development
      • Calibration
      • Software development and simulation environments
      • CAN bus protocol
      • Understanding of powertrain and vehicle system functionality.
      • Hands-on electrical engineering
    • Working experience with some or all of the following tools:
      • AVL BOOST/BOOST Aftertreatment
      • AVL CruiseM/MoBEO
      • Ricardo WAVE
      • GT Power
      • Non-commercial 1D or 0D simulation codes
      • Matlab

    Qualifications

    • Technical
      • Working experience within industry or acedemia using standard simulation tools such as AVL BOOST, AVL CruiseM, WAVE, GT Power, etc.
      • Ability to identify, initiate, and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use.
      • Provide effective sharing of know-how for other departmental staff in areas of expertise
      • Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
      • Calibration and development experience in the area of responsibility (engines, transmissions, etc.)
      • Troubleshooting interactions and behavior of complex and integrated model systems
    • Relational
      • Working effectively with customers and other program staff and team members
      • Accountability for individual and team delivery
      • Active pursuit of personal and departmental improvement
      • Effective communication with all levels of the program team
    • Commercial
      • Support the Business Development process for specific clients.
      • Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently high feedback.
    • Experience and Education
      • 1-5+ years of experience in area of expertise
      • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Thermodynamics or related field required
      • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
