AVL Powertrain Engineering is looking for controls / algorithm development engineers. Multiple opportunities are available, in the AVL Plymouth area and on-site at customers in Southeastern Michigan. Ideal candidates should possess 0 - 3 years of experience in embedded controls development utilizing a Matlab/Simulink based environment. Extensive Matlab & Simulink experience is preferred. Application areas include conventional (engines, transmission / driveline) and electrified powertrains. Qualified candidates will be a flexible self-starter who (1) communicates clearly, (2) works well independently, and (3) manages time/resources effectively. The Project Engineer I provides technical and program execution skills to the Skill Team and Cross-Functional engineering program team activities.

The Controls & Electronics team executes functional integration & optimization of the powertrain software & control systems into the overall vehicle platform. The group is responsible for the overall control system operation. Detailed responsibilities include: Engine, Transmission, Driveline, Hybrid, and Aftertreatment Functional Requirements definition for overall powertrain, hybrid system performance, efficiency, serviceability and reliability of repeatable performance.

A Project Engineer I is expected to have demonstrated performance abilities in the following areas:
Quote Leader for a small size program
Support the Business Development process for specific clients
Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently high feedback
Identify and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use.
Published at least 1 paper accepted by a professional organization or 1 patent awarded
Actively pursues utilization of Global AVL technology capabilities
Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
Independent functionality in at least two of the following areas:
Experience and Education
