  • Overview

    AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. is looking for an experienced Design Checker to add to our team.  This role will be key to project success and will be involved in a customer project to develop a performance engine.  The Sr. Project Engineer - Design Quality, will be responsible for implementation of the release and review process on design projects, lead efforts to ensure design projects follow documented processes, perform design checking, mentor, and develop staff for GD&T/Quality procedures and updates.

     

    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for design release documentation routing and processing in coordination with the published design process
    • Responsible for auditing active programs to ensure the published design process is followed
    • Owns the design project review process including scheduling and identifying when design review meetings are required in coordination with the design project lead
    • Owns the design review action items lists for design projects, responsible for document creation, action item tracking, action item close out, and final sign off
    • Leads efforts to standardize GD&T implementation for each design component or system.
    • Performs design checking on customer projects for 2D details in coordination with current ASME standards
    • Responsible for ensuring design documentation is complete on design projects including model checking for 3D assembly robustness, clearance and collision checks, completion of tolerance stack-ups
    • Assists with identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities for the design release process, documents and shares best practices with the design team
    • Assists with supplier quality improvements in coordination with purchasing, identifies supplier capabilities and improves dimensioning robustness of AVL released 2D drawings
    • Trains and mentors design engineers with GD&T rules and best practices updates
    • In addition to design quality responsibilities, can perform design and other relevant engineering project work within a project team as required

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering and considerable experience in Powertrain Design
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Minimum of 5 – 7+ years’ experience in area of expertise
    • Excellent communication skills

    • Excellent knowledge of more than one area of engine systems design or manufacturing process i.e. Air system design, Block/Crankcase design, foundry practice
    • Extensive experience or training in GD&T
    • Good understanding of design and development processes
    • Understands and has used 3D CAD tools
    • Organizational skills
    • Communication and presentation skills
