    Looking for an opportunity to help build a Powertrain Engineering team by providing guidance and knowledge of OBD Calibration?  This is a great chance to grow as an engineer, as well as to have a significant impact on a growing area at AVL worldwide! 

     

    AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. is looking for a Project Engineer with gasoline OBD calibration experience.  Qualified candidates will possess at least 2 to 3 years of direct OBD gasoline experience.  A basic understanding of OBD regulations, gasonline engines and 3 way catalysts is required.  Candidates should also possess experience with typical calibration tools and gasoline calibration experience with CCDM and one or more gasoline OBD major monitors.  In addition, proficient communication skills are required. 

     

    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

    Responsibilities

    The Calibration Skill Team provides engine calibration expertise to projects.

     

    The specific roles of a Project Engineer II in this effort include:

    *Defines, plans, and performs engine and vehicle calibration and other relevant engineering project work within project team as required.

    *Plans and manages engineering resources according to project requirements.

    *Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, technical plans, engine testing, vehicle testing, data analysis and validation.

    *Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports.

    *Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations.

    *Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.

    *Defines, executes, and supports engine performance and emissions research and development activities.

    *Supports customer meetings.

    *Other duties as required to insure project success.

    Qualifications

    *Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

    *2 - 3 years minimum of applicable experience

    *Basic understanding of OBD regulatory requirements – CARB, EU-OBD, EPA-OBD, WWH-OBD

     

    *Strong fundamentals in Gasoline engine and TWC operation with understanding of engine & vehicle calibration processes and techniques.

     

    *Calibration, development, and production implementation experience with one or more of the following engine types:

    • Spark-ignited direct injection (NA or turbocharged)
    • Spark-ignited PFI engines 

    *Independent functionality in at least one of the following areas:

    Base engine diagnostics calibration such as Fuel System Monitor, Misfire, Oxygen Sensor Monitor etc.

    Catalyst monitor calibration

    EVAP monitor calibration 

    Fault path and inhibit matrix calibration

    CCM calibration (such as rationality diagnostics, circuit checks etc.)

    Hybrid Component Calibration (such as Battery Monitoring Diagnostics, Thermal Management System Diagnostics, Drive/ Generator related diagnostics etc.)

    OBDII self-certification testing

    Durability fleet diagnostic data analysis and issue resolution

    Post production OBD validation and certification documentation preparation.

     

    *Working experience with some of the following tools:

    Etas INCA

    ATI Vision

    Vector CANape, CANalyze

    AVL Cameo

    AVL Concerto

    Proficient in Matlab / Simulink Work Experience and Education

     

    Preferred Candidates will have one or more of the following:

    *Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques

    *Knowledge on engine/vehicle setup in dyno/chassis dyno cell with experience in CARB emissions related testing processes.

    *Experience with troubleshooting controls, hardware or software issues by utilizing fundamental knowledge and working principles of engine and exhaust system components.

    *Project Planning and Management Skills using MS Project.
