  • Overview

    AVL is looking for a Sr. Designer to add to our Powertrain Engineering team in Plymouth, MI.  This position will be responsible for performing powertrain systems level design work on customer projects.  Qualified candidates will be experienced in NX CAD software and will possess excellent communication skills.  In addition, a bachelors degree in engineering and at least 5 - 7 years of applicable experience are required.  This position will provide diversity in projects working amongst some of the most qualified engineers in the field.

    • Performs system level design work on customer projects
    • Plans and formulates work flow to meet specified deadlines with minimum of supervision
    • Has engineering responsibility for major powertrain subsystems or component groups in any system assigned
    • Owns all system engineering tasks relating to component responsibility i.e.
      • Architecture
      • Resolving design constraints and establishing interfaces
      • DFMEA’s, DVPR’s
      • BOM input
      • Co-ordinating input from other skill teams as required i.e. Structural and Dynamic Analysis, 3D/2D simulation
      • Supplier negotiations and lead-time planning
      • Supports CAE and simulation, guiding & reviewing boundary conditions



    • Bachelors degree in engineering
    • At least 5 -7 years experience in powertrain design
    • Excellent knowledge of one or more area of powertrain systems design i.e. Engine, Transmission, E-Axle and/or Battery
    • Knowledge of system engineering i.e.
      • P-diagrams and boundary diagrams
      • DFMEA’s
      • BOM input
    • Supplier negotiations
    • Good CAD skills on one or more systems (Creo 2 and/or NX experience required)
    • Basic understanding of CAE tools and practices
