  • Overview

    Looking to begin your automotive career as a Design Engineer?  AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. is looking to increase the design team in Plymouth, MI.  This position will be exposed to the development of new technologies in the powertrain industry.  An ideal candidate will have an interest in completing 3D and 2D CAD designs for proto type and production hardware.  Qualified candidates must also possess proficient communication skills and customer interaction abilities.  An internship in the automotive industry is preferred. 

     

    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Plans and formulates work flow to meet specified deadlines with minimum of supervision
    • Has engineering responsibility for major engine subsystems or component groups
    • Relationship with engineers in Graz, particularly in the area of Port design and also within the design group
    • Supports KAM’s for development of project proposals, including customer presentations and project meetings
    • Owns all system engineering tasks relating to component responsibility i.e.
      • Architecture
      • Resolving design constraints and establishing interfaces
      • DFMEA’s, DVPR’s
      • BOM input
      • Co-ordinating input from other skill teams as required i.e. Analysis, Combustion
      • Supplier negotiations and lead-time planning
      • Supports CAE and simulation, guiding & reviewing boundary conditions

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ degree in engineering OR powertrain design required
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • 0-3+ years’ experience - automotive internship preferred
    • Excellent knowledge of one or more area of engine systems design i.e. Air system design, Block/Crankcase design
    • Knowledge of system engineering i.e.
      • P-diagrams and boundary diagrams
      • DFMEA’s
      • BOM input
    • Supplier negotiations
    • Good CAD skills on one or more systems
    • Basic understanding of CAE tools and practices
    • Working effectively with customers and other program staff and team members
    • Accountability for individual and team delivery
    • Active pursuit of personal and departmental improvement
    • Effective communication with all levels of the program team
    • Effective communication with the customer
