    Looking to grow your career using cutting edge development and vehicle electrification - apply to AVL today!  The AVL California Tech Center is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer II to our Lake Forest, CA office.  This position will perform systems level design work on customer projects and will own all system engineering tasks relating to system responsibility.  Qualified candidates must have at least 5 years of applicable experience and possess proficient communication skills (written and verbal.)  In addition, experience in CAD software such as Pro/E, CATIA or solidworks is required.

    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position





    • Performs system level design work on customer projects
    • Plans and formulates work flow of self and other to meet specified deadlines with minimum of supervision
    • Has engineering responsibility and can lead specific phases of projects i.e. technical studies, specification writing, establishing technical plans
    • Co-ordinates project meetings, design reviews and sign off reviews
    • Resolves engineering and design conflicts
    • Owns all system engineering tasks relating to system responsibility i.e.
      • Architecture
      • Resolving design constraints and establishing interfaces
      • DFMEA’s, DVPR’s
      • BOM input
      • Coordinating input from other skill teams as required i.e. Analysis
      • Supplier negotiations and lead-time planning
    • Lead and author single team proposals
    • Provide engineering leadership to project teams


    • Bachelor’s degree and 3 -5 years’ experience in vehicle component design and drive system development.
    • Two years’ experience in vehicle electronification and integration.
    • Understanding of low and high voltage applications.
    • Two years of direct design experience utilizing parametric CAD software such as Pro/E, CATIA or Solidworks
    • Hands on fabrication experience.  Able to utilize and operate machinery (mills, lathes, breaks, etc.) to fabricate, assemble and test component design.
    • Able to utilize FEA and CFD concepts to analyze, optimize and validate component design.
    • Can lead system engineering process i.e.
      • DFMEA’s
      • DVP&R
    • Supplier and vendor negotiations
    • Team leader skills
    • Communication and presentation skills
