Overview

AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. (PEI), is looking for an intern who has a passion for powertrain calibration!  Interested in employment with AVL?  Qualified candidates must be looking to grow their experience as a part of the world's largest independent company for the development of Powertrain Systems with internal combustion engines.

 

Engineers at all levels of employment with AVL should possess proficient communication skills that can be utilized when working directly with co-workers as well as customers.  In addition, the ability to work in a team environment is also required.

 

The intern position is a learning position and will be based in Plymouth, MI.  The position will begin around May of 2018 and end in the fall of 2018.  This position is paid hourly without benefits.  The PEI Intern - Calibration will be appointed a supervisor and a mentor to ensure success in the position.

 

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of an engineering lead:

  • Performs engine and vehicle calibration and other relevant engineering project work within project team as required.
  • Supports/ensures data quality and contributes to technical project reports.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
  • Defines, executes, and supports engine performance and emissions research and development activities.
  • Supports customer meetings.
  • Other duties as required to insure project success.
  • Embrace duties and assignments as determined by the department director of the individual assigned to directly supervise them.
  • Execute responsibilities as assigned, in an efficient and timely manner.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Accurate transcription and data input skills.
  • Good keyboard and math skills.
  • Good computer skills including familiarity with Excel and Matlab.
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
