With significant growth in the field of powertrain hybridization and electrification, AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. is looking for a number of driven and highly capable Engineers who can quickly contribute to this field in one or a number of these areas: Energy Storage, Battery Management Systems, Power Electronics/E-Motors, Hybrid/Electrified Powertrain Controls, System Integration. This role will be part of a cross functional team working at all stages of hybrid and electrified powertrain development; from concept work, to initial demonstrator development, through to production solutions.

The Electrification Team works to define project architectures, system and component requirements, develops EV and HEV components, and delivers functional integration of mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, energy storage systems within hybrid and electric vehicle applications. The group is responsible for executing electrified powertrain development programs, including verification/validation of the identified electrified powertrain system/component requirements.
The specific roles of a Project Engineer II –Electrification, include:
Execute systems engineering principles to integrate electrification technologies within hybrid and electric vehicle powertrain system platforms.
Definition and execution of: functional requirements, system boundaries, component & subsystem interface definition, functional safety, and performance tracking
Provide technical guidance to quality and reliability engineering and assist with FMEA activities
Supports Functional Safety / ISO26262 activities.
Plans and manages engineering activities according to project requirements.
Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, development of electrified systems/components, technical plans, powertrain system and component testing, data analysis and validation.
Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports.
Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
Plans and executes electrification research and development activities.
Supports, organizes, and contributes to customer meetings.
Other duties as required to insure project success.
A Project Engineer II – Electrification is expected to have demonstrated performance abilities in the following areas:
Quote Leader for a small size program
Support the Business Development process for specific clients
Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently high feedback
Identify and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use
Published at least 1 paper accepted by a professional organization or 1 patent awarded Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
Knowledge of hybrid/electrification technology within passenger car, medium duty, or heavy duty
Hybrid/electric powertrain functionality knowledge
Knowledge in at least two of the following areas:
